KKNabawi

Artist Bio
Jacquala Nabawi, also known as KK, is a 22 year old dancer/choreographer born and raised in Memphis, TN. She started off her early years cheering for a competitive cheer team and also being a part of a majorette team where she gained the love for jazz movement. She continued to gain knowledge and experience as a cheerleader before switching over to her high school’s dance team, and that was when she began to get introduced into a whole other world of dance. KK had experienced her first dosage of any kind of technical training by her coach, who was a professional NBA dancer at the time, and this training had led to many rewards such as winning state championship rings for the styles of pom and hip-hop. Being able to experience every one of those moments led her to also want to coach her own team in the future.
Fast forward to college and KK is now a Dance Major with a focus in Pedagogy. She has trained in modern, jazz, ballet, and advanced contemporary. KK is even well known for her unique style when dancing in heels. She has her own dance brand and has taught at local studios such as CAT Choreography, and even the renown Millenium Dance Complex in Nashville TN. She has held her own heels workshops and has even taught workshops and set choreographic pieces for MPAC, which is a performing arts company on campus. She was even awarded the “Emerging Dance Teacher Award” by the MTSU Theatre and Dance department. KK is currently a member of the Dance Society Board, and also works as a contract choreographer for a company in Nashville TN.

Statement
Dance for me is equivalent to my favorite thing to do for relaxation, but also the most uncomfortable thing I've ever had to grow through. It is the epitome of constant, involuntary evolution from every movement that I’ve developed yesterday and the days before. My personal sense of artistry has poured more into me physically while letting my mental creativity blossom on its own. Dance for me is learning to accept wherever I may be on this journey of movement and connection. I’ve learned to love and thank my body for what it can produce out of the ordinary, while remembering that my artistic style is unique.
